As more small businesses and consumers warm to engaging with mobile and social ads, the opportunity is ripe for affiliates who are looking to capitalize more on those campaigns.
Mobile Spend To Skyrocket
Leading advisory firm BIA/Kelsey recently released a new report stating that local advertising on mobile devices sold by pure-play mobile providers is expected to rise to $19 billion by the end of the year. This will essentially place mobile as the third largest advertising platform in 2018, trailing only direct mail and television. Not only that, but it’s also highly anticipated that mobile will take the number two position by 2022.
“Mobile has become a preferred platform for the advertising dollar because of its ability to capture audiences of all ages based precisely on where they are and what they are doing, at any given moment,” claimed Mark Fratrik, chief economist and SVP at BIA/Kelsey.
In the United States alone, it’s estimated that pure-play mobile will account for nearly 13% of overall local advertising spend, which is currently estimated at around $151 billion.
A Steady Increase for Social
Additionally, the BIA/Kelsey report also covered the state of social ad spend. Currently, mobile social media ad revenue represents 70% of total social ad spend. That is expected to increase by another 10% at the end of 2022. In terms of individual platforms leading the way, Facebook remains the number one revenue generator by a large margin, followed by Twitter, Snapchat, and LinkedIn.
While these changes certainly mean there will be more competition capturing attention within these channels, these findings should serve as a great motivator to affiliates who may have been hesitant to move forward driving traffic to mobile offers. There is clearly an increase in consumers willing to convert on these channels, and it’s a great time to start testing the waters.
